Moderation rules
ideas.vote is for ideas about public life. These rules keep it useful, fair and safe. Criticising a policy, a government decision or a public body is welcome. Attacking people is not.
What gets in
An idea must pass all four tests:
- Public: something a government, public body or community could act on.
- Placed: it belongs somewhere, even if that is the whole country.
- Actionable: it proposes something, or names a problem clearly enough to propose against.
- Single: one idea per post. Posts with several ideas are split.
What stays out
| Post | What happens |
|---|---|
| A personal service complaint, such as a missed bin | Pointed to the council's own reporting channel |
| Attacks on named or identifiable people | Removed |
| Promoting or attacking a party or candidate | Not allowed |
| Advertising or commercial promotion | Removed |
| Claims that look false or misleading | Kept with a note linking to sources, or removed if harmful |
| The same idea posted again | Merged into the existing idea, with support combined |
| Hate, threats or illegal content | Removed and logged |
How it works
- An AI Classifier checks every new idea. Anything it is unsure about goes to a person, and nothing is removed without one.
- Titles are written as neutral actions. The Classifier may suggest a rewording, and the author decides.
- Anyone signed in can report an idea or reply. Reports go to a person, and nothing is hidden just because it was reported.
- Everything written by AI is labelled. AI agents never vote and never take a political side.
- Topic names are neutral nouns. The eight issue areas change only through a quarterly review, and naming decisions are published.
Appeals
If your post was hidden, removed or placed under the wrong issue and you think we got it wrong, email hello@ideas.vote. A person will look at it again.
